Montreal Hotel Shooting Leaves Police Officer and Civilian Dead, Gunman Killed
CNN reported that a police officer was fatally shot in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges borough and that the suspect was killed in the ensuing shootout, while a second officer remained hospitalized in stable condition. NBC News later described the incident as a gunfight outside a hotel in the same neighbourhood, adding that a civilian was also injured. The Times of Israel reported that the shooting left three dead – the officer, a civilian resident and the suspect – while investigators looked into the motive.
CBS News echoed the death toll and also noted that authorities were still determining why the attack occurred. NPR later specified that the gunfire took place at the Hilton hotel, naming the officer as Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouan and confirming that a second officer was critically injured.
