Mass protests in France draw half-million, police deploy tear gas
CNN reported that around 550,000 people demonstrated in French cities on 17 October, and police deployed tear gas while making arrests as clashes erupted in Paris and other locations. Earlier, DW said police had used tear gas in several cities, arresting hundreds of protesters over grievances about high prices, inequality and education. BBC had earlier noted that about 33,000 participants took part in more than 140 actions nationwide, with police recording 272 arrests and incidents of violence in multiple cities.
