Teacher wounded in Oregon school shooting says she couldn't protect children
Teacher Becky Drury told CNN on Oct. 22 that she was shot at close range during the Oct. 15 attack at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, and, after being wounded, pretended to be dead because she could not protect the children. The 16-year-old suspect, identified by NBC News as John J. Griffin II, entered the school, killed three students and a teacher, and was then shot dead by an armed civilian, CNN reported.
Police placed the school on lockdown and set up a reunification point for families, according to KATU. The shooter used a Maverick 88 shotgun bought by his mother, and the youngest victim was five-year-old Rhoam Summer, the youngest person ever killed in a U. S. school mass shooting, as reported by OregonLive.
