Salvadoran troops land in Haiti on U.S. C-130 after gang ambush
Salvadoran officials said three military flights, one a U. S. C-130, landed in Port-au-Prince on 23 October, bringing troops to intensify the search for four soldiers ambushed by Haitian gangs.
President Nayib Bukele had announced on 21 October that the gangs were holding four members of the UN-backed security force hostage and that a rescue operation was under way. Earlier, he said the effort targeted four Salvadoran aviation technicians seized by the gangs and warned of stronger action if they were not released alive. The deployment included 100 special-forces personnel, with a possible second contingent under consideration.
