BC officials investigate grizzly attack killing mother and daughter, impose curfew
Conservation officers in British Columbia said they are investigating the suspected grizzly bear attack that killed Jennifer Balcarras and her daughter Selah Reed, and the Nuxalk Nation imposed an evening curfew in the area. The bodies were first discovered on the Snooka West trail near Bella Coola on 1 November, when officers found the mother’s remains and continued searching for her 20-year-old daughter.
Authorities later identified the victims as 48-year-old Jennifer Balcarras and her 20-year-old daughter Selah Reed, and officials noted that a grizzly bear may have been involved. A second body was subsequently recovered, prompting speculation that more than one bear could be responsible.
