Toronto police issue safety alert after needles found in Halloween candy
Toronto Police Service issued a safety alert on 3 November after two separate reports of sewing needles and pins found in individually wrapped Halloween treats, noting that no injuries were reported. The alerts followed earlier incidents that began on 31 October, when a 53-year-old Toronto father discovered needles and pins hidden inside candy bars collected while trick-or-treating and urged parents to inspect treats.
Toronto police and Durham Regional Police launched investigations into the separate reports and advised residents to check candy for tampering. Police in several provinces, including Ontario and Quebec, also warned that needles and a syringe had been found in Halloween candy, urging continued vigilance.
