Israel's fragmented Knesset leaves Netanyahu without majority, coalition talks urged
Haaretz reported that with 90% of votes counted, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc failed to secure a clear majority in Israel's Knesset, leaving the parliament split and prompting calls for coalition talks. Earlier, Al Jazeera quoted Balad party leader Sami Abu Shehadeh denouncing the exclusion of Arab parties from coalition negotiations as racist as Arab parties neared a record 19 seats. The National noted that Arab parties ultimately won 18 seats, tightening Netanyahu's path to a majority.
Ynetnews said Democratic Party lawmakers urged cooperation with the Arab Ra'am party to form a new government. The Jerusalem Post had projected that Yair Golan's Democrats could win nine to ten seats, a result that could shape coalition talks.
