Disney+ and Hulu greenlight a reboot of the musical series "Glee"

Resumen

The streaming services have ordered a new version of the former Fox musical drama, with creator Ryan Murphy confirming a script and discussions with original cast members.

Disney+ and Hulu have commissioned a reboot of the musical dramedy series "Glee," which originally aired on Fox from 2009 to 2015. The new version will be produced by 20th Television and will stream on both platforms, though details about the cast and storyline remain limited.

Creator Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Tonight that he has written a reboot script with collaborators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan and has been in contact with about ten former cast members, all of whom expressed enthusiasm for the project.

"I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea."

Actress Lea Michele said to E! News that she would be happy to return, noting her lasting affection for the show and its creator.

"I love ‘Glee.’ I will always love ‘Glee.’ I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me… I will follow Ryan wherever he goes."

Actor Chris Colfer, speaking to Bustle, acknowledged the difficulty of reviving the series after the death of former cast member Naya Rivera, but said he remains open to considering participation.

"It was a really tough show to do, and it would be really hard to do it now that Naya [Rivera] is gone. But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no. So I don’t know, but hopefully I’ll have more information and I can actually think about it."

The original series followed a high school show choir in Lima, Ohio and was noted for its musical performances and its handling of topics such as sexuality, race, disability and mental health. Its soundtrack continues to attract listeners, averaging over four million monthly streams on Spotify. No further casting announcements have been made, and production timelines have not been disclosed.
