Wichita police say driver released, investigation continues after soccer field crash
Wichita Police Department said on 21 October that the driver was released pending toxicology and mechanical examinations and that the investigation remains ongoing. The incident began on 17 October when a black pickup truck drove onto the Stryker Sports Complex soccer field, killing a 6-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man and wounding ten to eleven spectators. The 34-year-old driver was taken into custody, later identified as a woman, and subsequently released while authorities complete the required tests; the Sedgwick County sheriff’s office also clarified that a deputy was not the driver and the district attorney will conduct an initial review of the case.
