Three masked intruders shoot father and two adult daughters in Toronto's Bridle Path

Summary

Police say three masked suspects broke into a home in Toronto's Bridle Path early Thursday, shooting a father and his two adult daughters; the victims remain hospitalized and the investigation is ongoing.

A home on Hyde Park Circle in Toronto's Bridle Path neighbourhood was invaded by three masked suspects armed with handguns and a hammer at about 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, police said. The intruders entered through a rear door and confronted a husband, wife and their two adult daughters. During the ensuing struggle, the father and both daughters were shot, and one person was struck with a hammer. All four victims were taken to hospital, where two remain in care with injuries now described as life-altering.

Inspector Kristy Smith of the Toronto Police Service’s Hold Up squad said the suspects fled in an SUV before first responders arrived. She noted that the assailants demanded valuables, though it is unclear whether anything was taken. While police have not released suspect descriptions, they indicated the motive may have involved theft of high-end vehicles, a pattern sometimes seen in residential break-ins.

Smith emphasized that the investigation is active and that authorities are working to identify the three suspects. She added that a separate gunshot victim who arrived at a local hospital shortly after the incident is being examined for any possible connection.

Local resident Cecil Hawkins described the event as a “terrible shock and tragedy,” expressing surprise that such violence occurred in a neighbourhood known for security measures.
