Toronto police identify one suspect in Bridle Path home invasion
Police have named 23-year-old Daijohn Richards as a suspect in the violent Bridle Path home invasion that injured four family members, and have issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.
Toronto police have identified 23-year-old Daijohn Richards as one of three suspects in a home invasion in the Bridle Path neighbourhood that left four family members injured. Investigators say Richards was shot in the right shoulder by an accomplice during the attack and was treated at St. Joseph’s Health Centre before being released late Thursday morning. He remains at large and is subject to a Canada-wide warrant.
"We don’t just go off of suspicion," Inspector Kristy Smith said, noting that officers did not arrest Richards while he was receiving treatment because reasonable grounds had not yet been established.
Police released a photograph of Richards and asked the public to contact investigators if they have information about his whereabouts. All three suspects are described as armed and dangerous.
Richards faces multiple charges, including four counts of discharge of a firearm with intent to wound, four counts of robbery with a firearm, three counts of aggravated assault, break and enter, possession of a prohibited device, and disguise with intent.
The incident, which occurred early Thursday on Hyde Park Circle, involved masked suspects armed with handguns and a hammer. Four residents – a 75-year-old man, a 64-year-old woman, and two adult daughters – were injured; three sustained gunshot wounds and two were also struck with a hammer. Two victims remain hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police continue to search for the remaining two suspects and have increased patrols in the area. Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw called the attack "devastating" and said specialized investigative teams are working to bring those responsible to justice.
