Authorities have arrested Tyler Robinson, 22, in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Robinson, a resident of Washington County, Utah, was taken into custody after a family member recognized him from surveillance images released to the public.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced the arrest, stating that Robinson had become "more political" in recent years. During a recent family dinner, Robinson reportedly criticized Kirk's viewpoints and mentioned his upcoming event at the university.
Investigators recovered a Mauser .30-caliber bolt-action rifle near the scene, along with shell casings inscribed with phrases such as "Hey fascist! Catch!" and lyrics from the Italian anti-fascist song "Bella Ciao."
Robinson's roommate provided authorities with Discord messages in which Robinson discussed retrieving and hiding a rifle, as well as instructions about the weapon's location.
