Man Allegedly Falsely Confessed to Charlie Kirk Shooting to Aid Suspect's Escape
Authorities allege that 71-year-old George Zinn falsely claimed responsibility for the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk to facilitate the actual suspect's escape.
Authorities have charged 71-year-old George Zinn with obstruction of justice, alleging he falsely confessed to the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk to aid the real suspect's escape. Utah County Sheriff Michael Smith stated that Zinn admitted to yelling he was the shooter to divert attention from the actual perpetrator.
The primary suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, reportedly acknowledged Zinn's initial arrest in a text to his roommate, noting that police had detained "some crazy old dude." Zinn is also facing charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material, with over 20 images found in his possession. A judge has ordered Zinn to be held without bail, citing him as a "substantial danger" to the community.
Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and media personality, was fatally shot at Utah Valley University on September 10. President Donald Trump described Kirk's death as a "dark moment for America."
