Tyler Robinson Charged with Aggravated Murder in Charlie Kirk Shooting; Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty

Tyler Robinson, 22, has been formally charged with aggravated murder in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10. Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray announced the charges on Tuesday, stating his intent to seek the death penalty.

In addition to aggravated murder, Robinson faces charges of felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child.

Robinson is scheduled to make his initial court appearance via livestream from the Utah County Jail.

Investigators are examining evidence, including electronic devices linked to Robinson, and have not yet disclosed a motive for the shooting.

Robinson was apprehended after his father recognized him in photographs released by authorities and persuaded him to surrender.

President Donald Trump commented on the case, suggesting that Robinson may have been radicalized online.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather and assess evidence related to the case.
