Jeffries outlines Democratic strategy as incoming speaker after House win
Incoming House speaker Hakeem Jeffries outlined his strategy for confronting President Donald Trump and advancing the Democratic agenda in Washington, D. C. , saying his record and recent election gains positioned the party for oversight and policy action. CBS News reported projections that Democrats would retake both the House and Senate, setting up oversight battles with the Trump administration.
ABC News said the party planned to restore health-care subsidies, reverse Medicaid cuts and launch investigations into the administration. NPR noted that Jeffries highlighted priorities such as affordability, housing, education, health care and anti-corruption measures. The Straits Times added that Democrats would need to balance Trump investigations with an affordability agenda. The Globe and Mail reported that Democrats also aimed to address tariffs, judicial confirmations and other policy areas while acknowledging President Trump’s veto power.
