Malaysia delays Najib Razak's house-arrest transfer pending legal review
The Attorney-General's Chambers in Kuala Lumpur postponed former prime minister Najib Razak's transfer to house arrest as it reviews the conditions of his royal pardon and the related court order. Earlier, the agency had sought a temporary halt to the move while seeking legal clarification, according to CNA.
Prior to that, UMNO announced it had paid the RM50 million fine imposed on Najib, clearing the way for the house-arrest sentence, CNA said. A Free Malaysia Today article quoted Najib's lawyer as saying he had not received any instruction to pay the fine, and a Malay Mail report had indicated that Najib was scheduled to pay the fine to activate the house arrest.
