Malaysia's King reiterates clarity of Najib Razak's conditional pardon
The Malaysian royal palace in Kuala Lumpur said Sultan Ibrahim’s conditional pardon for former prime minister Najib Razak, which allows him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, is clear and not open to alternative interpretation. Earlier, the United Malays National Organisation said it had paid the RM50 million fine that triggers the house-arrest condition after the former prime minister was originally scheduled to pay the fine himself.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers then sought a temporary halt to the transfer and delayed it while reviewing the royal pardon and the related court order. Najib’s lawyer had previously denied receiving any instruction to settle the fine.
