UK health agency says Ebola risk to Britain remains low amid DRC outbreak
The UK Health Security Agency said on 31 October that the risk of Ebola spreading to Britain remained low despite the Democratic Republic of Congo’s outbreak, noting the country’s strict protocols and the virus’s limited transmission characteristics. Earlier, Africa CDC director-general Dr. Jean Kaseya urged greater international aid, highlighting Canada’s contributions and the need for further assistance.
The Congolese Ministry of Health reported more than 10,000 infections and over 5,000 deaths, a near-50% fatality rate. Euronews reported that the Bundibugyo strain has also spread to Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria, raising concerns about regional transmission. DD India noted that health officials warned the outbreak could reach Europe.
