Finland bans Russian opponents in ice hockey while Ukraine war continues
The Finnish Ice Hockey Association announced on 30 October that its national squads will boycott matches against Russian teams as long as the war in Ukraine continues, a development reported on 2 November. Earlier on 30 October, Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Sport Minister Adam van Koeverden condemned the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to reinstate Russia in upcoming IIHF events, including the 2026-27 World Junior Championship, calling the move unwelcome given Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
