Sweden and Norway join Finland in boycotting Russian hockey teams
Sweden and Norway announced on 3 November that they will boycott Russian teams at the upcoming IIHF world championships, aligning with Finland’s earlier stance as the federation prepares tournaments in Alberta, Canada. Finland’s Ice Hockey Association had declared on 30 October that its national squads would not face Russian teams while the war in Ukraine continues. The boycott follows a Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling that reinstated Russia for the 2026-27 World Junior Championship, a decision condemned by Canadian foreign affairs minister Anita Anand and sport minister Adam van Koeverden.
