Binance confirms $6.3 billion hack, freezes $3 billion, pledges full reimbursement
Binance said it had frozen about $3 billion of assets after a security breach that cost roughly $6. 3 billion, and that it would cover all user losses; a U. S. blockchain intelligence firm linked the theft to North Korea's TraderTraitor unit.
The exchange earlier reported an outflow of more than $5. 5 billion from its hot wallets, suspended deposits and withdrawals on multiple networks, and worked with authorities and stablecoin issuers to freeze billions of dollars. Analysts noted that the attacker moved stolen funds through DeFi platforms such as Uniswap and Aave, prompting further freezes.
