Intel shares plunge 29% after weak Q4 outlook and Israel plant blast
Yahoo Finance reported that Intel's shares fell nearly 29% the steepest drop since 1974, after the company projected fourth-quarter revenue and earnings below analysts' expectations. The warning followed earlier concerns about weaker demand and a $600 million revenue hit from an October 14 explosion at Intel's Fab 28 plant in Kiryat Gat, Israel, which Reuters said had triggered a 23% after-hours plunge.
BigGo Finance estimated the blast would cut the fourth-quarter gross margin by about two points. The Globe and Mail noted that Intel forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $15-16 billion, below estimates, linking the outlook to a prolonged PC slowdown and worries over AI spending, which helped spark a broader sell-off in semiconductor and server stocks.
