Spain high-speed train crash near Urda kills at least 30
Spanish officials said that on 28 October a Renfe high-speed train collided with a stationary Iryo train near Urda in Toledo province, killing at least 30 people and injuring dozens, and that a possible signalling error may have caused the crash. The authorities suspended all high-speed services on the line and deployed emergency crews to the site.
Earlier reports had given higher casualty figures; The Straits Times reported that the collision left 64 dead. Subsequent information from other sources, including The Hindu, confirmed at least 30 fatalities and described the incident as a serious accident.
