Villa Vie Odyssey suspends global cruise, leaves 200 passengers stranded in Cambodia
NPR reported that the Villa Vie Odyssey suspended its three-year around-the-world itinerary in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, after fuel expenses surged, leaving more than 200 passengers and crew stranded. The company said sharply higher fuel prices, which more than tripled per-cabin costs, forced it to halt the residential cruise program and begin arranging disembarkation and temporary accommodation for guests. It also announced plans to seek Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as fuel price spikes linked to the Iran war made continued operation unaffordable.
