Real Madrid apologises to China as LaLiga broadcast remains suspended

Real Madrid apologised to Chinese fans for Kylian Mbappé’s comment, but China Media Group has not lifted its suspension of LaLiga broadcasts, the club said on 28 October. The controversy began on 27 October when a video showed Mbappé referring to Mao Zedong as a "Chinese dictator," prompting Chinese beverage company Dongpeng Beverage and dairy producer Mengniu to terminate their sponsorships, Al Jazeera reported. Mbappé later issued an apology and La Liga released a statement, Al Jazeera added.

Reuters noted that Chinese state media removed his advertising and social-media accounts. Real Madrid also issued an apology to Chinese supporters, Al Jazeera said.
