Mbappé apologises as China bans La Liga broadcasts and ends sponsorships
Kylian Mbappé apologized on 28 October for remarks that were taken as calling Mao Zedong a dictator, after which Chinese authorities suspended La Liga broadcasts in the country and several sponsors, including Dongpeng Beverage and Mengniu, terminated their partnerships with the player, CNA reported. Earlier, two major Chinese brands, Dongpeng Beverage and Mengniu, ended their contracts with Mbappé after a video showed him refer to Mao as a "Chinese dictator," and La Liga issued a statement condemning the comment.
