Quebec Premier alleges federal block of his participation at Montreal EU-Canada summit

Quebec Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon said the federal government blocked his speaking slot and a reception at the Canada-EU summit in Montreal, adding that Ottawa had only consulted the province. Prime Minister Mark Carney and former Liberal leader Stéphane Dion had earlier stressed the need for concrete results in trade, science, defence and digital cooperation at the summit. EU officials said the meeting would deepen ties and explore a novel associate relationship that could bring Canada closer to EU membership.
