Stun grenade used in Hebron protest as thousands displaced
On 27 October Israeli troops fired a stun grenade to disperse a protest in Hebron after a large-scale military operation that had forced more than 3,000 Palestinians from their homes, The Jerusalem Post reported. The crackdown followed a series of security actions that began on 24 October, when Israeli forces razed the Ein Deir Baha neighbourhood, evicting hundreds of families after two soldiers were killed at a nearby checkpoint, according to The Guardian.
NBC News said a Palestinian businessman’s house was later demolished and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged tougher security measures ahead of elections. Al Jazeera reported that seized residences were turned into barracks and observation posts and that a citywide lockdown displaced thousands of residents.
