Singapore tightens haze probe, issues notices to Indonesian firms
On 27 October, Singapore's National Environment Agency issued preventive notices to Indonesian firms it said were linked to fires that could contribute to transboundary haze, and announced it would tighten scrutiny of sustainability certifications for palm-oil and pulp-and-paper products. The move follows earlier steps in the probe.
On 23 October, ten Singapore-based palm-oil and forestry companies confirmed receipt of NEA notices under the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act and pledged to cooperate with the agency's information requests. Minister Grace Fu later said the government would amend the Act to close enforcement gaps and boost corporate accountability for haze originating abroad.
