Singapore ministers secure cooperation from ten haze-linked firms and plan law amendments
Senior executives from the ten Singapore-based firms linked to transboundary haze met with senior ministers on 28 October and pledged full cooperation with the National Environment Agency, as Singapore prepared amendments to the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act, CNA reported. The amendment, detailed by The Straits Times, will give investigators unrestricted access to information and premises of companies implicated in haze-causing fires and will treat non-compliance as an offence. Earlier, Singapore and Indonesia agreed to a bilateral task force to share intelligence and recover assets, also reported by The Straits Times.
Minister Grace Fu had previously announced plans to tighten the haze law to close enforcement gaps. The National Environment Agency said all ten companies had acknowledged receipt of legal notices and said they would cooperate.
