Japan launches AI-driven cyberattack simulation team after PHP flaws
Japanese officials announced on 23 October that a new unit will employ artificial intelligence to conduct simulated cyberattacks, aiming to expose weaknesses in systems after the recent PHP programming-language flaws caused widespread disruptions. The PHP development team had earlier disclosed two CVSS 9. 2 remote-code-execution vulnerabilities and scheduled emergency patches for 21 October, releasing updates for all supported versions on that date. The U.
S. National Security Agency warned that the flaws, some dating back to 2004, were identified with the help of AI tools. Following the patches, several Asian governments launched cybersecurity inspections and urged immediate upgrades, while global web services experienced outages as operators took sites offline to apply the fixes.
