Nigeria investigates source of first Ebola case amid regional outbreak
Nigeria's health officials said they are investigating conflicting reports on how the country's first Ebola patient contracted the virus, after confirming the case in Abuja. The patient, a 42-year-old diplomat’s wife who had recently returned from Uganda, is recovering in isolation. The case was first announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, prompting extensive contact tracing and the observation of 44 contacts.
The health minister said the patient had spent two weeks in Kampala before falling ill. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention warned that the Bundibugyo strain is now present in central, eastern and western Africa and urged countries not to close borders.
