U.S. envoy secures release of detained American after meeting with Putin
U. S. envoy Steve Witkoff secured the release of American citizen Stephen Hubbard in St. Petersburg on 21 October after a meeting with President Vladimir Putin. Hubbard, a 74-year-old teacher, was flown to the United States.
President Donald J. Trump had earlier told reporters on 20 October that he had asked Putin to free the detained teacher. Putin confirmed that the detainee was released following the U. S. appeal, ending a four-year detention that began after Hubbard’s arrest in Russia.
