Orionid Meteor Shower Peaks Amid Cloud Threats Across U.S.
The Boston Globe reported that the Orionid meteor shower peaked night into early, but cloud cover from an offshore nor'easter and a bright waxing gibbous moon limited visibility in New England. Earlier, CNN noted that the shower reached its maximum on night, producing up to 20 meteors per hour, though the bright moon could reduce the viewing window. The Weather Channel had forecast clear-sky conditions across much of the central and eastern United States, while clouds and rain threatened the Rockies, Southwest, West Coast and parts of the Northeast.
