Trudy Forecast to Become Hurricane as Mexico Recovers from Simon
The National Hurricane Center said on October 14 that Tropical Storm Trudy is expected to strengthen into a hurricane within a day and could reach major hurricane status by October 16 as it approaches Mexico's southwestern coast. Trudy formed on October 10 in the Eastern Pacific, and the agency issued a bulletin forecasting its possible escalation, FOX Weather reported.
Earlier, Hurricane Simon moved parallel to Mexico's Pacific shoreline, bringing winds of up to 140 mph and heavy rain to the Puerto Vallarta area, prompting evacuations and shelter orders, according to PBS. The storm later caused flooding, infrastructure damage and five fatalities along the coast, as detailed by The Guardian, and CBS News noted that Simon, then a Category 1 system, moved slowly, generating further rain and prompting thousands of responders.
