NFL to Investigate Eagles' Handling of Jalen Hurts' Blood-Clot Treatment
The National Football League said on October 22 that it will conduct a joint investigation into the Philadelphia Eagles’ treatment of quarterback Jalen Hurts after the NFL Players Association requested a review. The league had earlier stated that the Eagles handled Hurts’ blood-clot case correctly and would face no discipline.
Hurts was diagnosed with deep-vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, ending his season, after a superficial calf clot forced him onto injured reserve and kept him out of the Week 6 game against the Panthers. Team doctors first identified the clot in mid-October, prompting the team to sideline Hurts for Week 6 and eventually place him on IR, while backup Tanner McKee took over as starter.
