NFL says No Concern Over Buck-Aikman Tension Amid Contract Talks
NFL media chief Hans Schroeder told reporters on 21 October that the league was not concerned about reported tension between Night Football commentators Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, praising their on-air performance during the game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The friction was first reported on 12 October, when Front Office Sports noted that Buck had secured a new six-year deal with ESPN/ABC while Aikman had not yet received a formal offer. NBC Sports later said the tension coincided with Buck’s five-year contract and Aikman's unsettled agreement. Aikman himself said he would finish the season as a free agent and was open to new opportunities, declining to comment on the dispute (NBC Sports).
The Guardian and NBC Sports confirmed that his ESPN contract would expire after the Super Bowl and that he sensed the network was moving in a different direction. Awful Announcing reported speculation that the contract dispute could affect the Buck-Aikman pairing for the Super Bowl broadcast, and Fox News added that ESPN had not begun new contract talks. NBC Sports also highlighted Aikman's consulting work with the Miami Dolphins as a factor that could complicate future broadcasting deals and noted growing speculation about his continued role on Night Football.
