Putin Proposes Trump-Xi Summit Amid U.S. Starshield Restrictions and Ukraine Counterattacks
A former Russian intelligence officer told CNBC that President Vladimir Putin suggested a three-way summit with President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. Earlier, Ukrainian officials reported that the United States imposed overnight speed restrictions on SpaceX’s military-grade Starshield satellite network, which they said disrupted drone operations and communications on the front line. Elon Musk said the limits were set by the U. S. military and the president, while the White House denied issuing a direct order. A bipartisan group of U.
S. senators asked the defence department inspector general to investigate the restrictions. President Donald Trump later denied that he ordered any limits, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the throttling hampered Ukraine’s drone defenses. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned Zelenskyy against making unverified statements about the slowdown, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Ukraine’s request for full Starshield access remains under discussion. After a three-day cease-fire on energy sites announced by Trump, Ukraine resumed strikes on Russian oil facilities, and Zelenskyy condemned the Trump-Russia diesel deal as a “parody. ”
