BBC documentary presents multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against Jared Leto

Summary

A BBC documentary aired Wednesday featuring four women who allege Jared Leto engaged in criminal sexual conduct with them as teenagers, while additional accounts describe inappropriate behavior toward younger women.

A BBC documentary titled “Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret” aired on Wednesday and presented allegations from four women who say the actor engaged in criminal sexual conduct with them when they were teenagers. One accuser says she was assaulted in a motel bathroom at age 17, another claims Leto threatened sexual assault at 19, a third alleges statutory rape after a sexual encounter at 17, and a fourth says he made repeated sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 and suggested they have sex. The documentary notes that the fourth woman was asked to sign a nondisclosure agreement, which she refused.

BBC investigators say they have corroborated parts of the women’s accounts with statements from friends and family, and in some instances have reviewed photographs and messages that support the claims. The alleged incidents span 2002 to 2016, when Leto was in his 30s and 40s.

Two former members of Leto’s band Thirty Seconds to Mars were also interviewed, describing a workplace environment where staff felt uncomfortable with his interactions with teenage girls and noting that he sometimes invited them backstage or to his recording house. One said, “I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big.”

The documentary adds that similar accusations have surfaced previously, including a 2023 claim by a Los Angeles DJ who said she was assaulted by Leto at age 17, prompting additional women to come forward. Leto’s representatives have not responded to requests for comment.
