Leaked Details Suggest Hardware Upgrades for Google Pixel Watch 4 Ahead of August Launch

Summary

A recent leak has outlined potential hardware improvements for Google's upcoming Pixel Watch 4, including a new co-processor, brighter display, and side charging. The smartwatch is expected to debut at Google's hardware event on August 20.

Google is expected to unveil the Pixel Watch 4 at its hardware event scheduled for August 20, alongside other devices such as phones and earbuds. A new leak has provided insight into the specifications of both the 41mm and 45mm models of the forthcoming smartwatch.

According to reports, both Pixel Watch 4 models will continue to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1 processor, but will introduce a new co-processor called the M55. This addition is said to enable the watch to handle significantly more AI-related tasks while consuming less power. The display on both versions is expected to reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, with a 320 ppi AMOLED LTPO panel supporting a 1-60Hz refresh rate.

Battery life is projected to improve, with the 41mm model offering up to 30 hours with the always-on display enabled and up to 48 hours in battery saver mode. The 45mm version is reported to provide 40 hours with always-on display and up to 72 hours when battery saver is activated. Both models will run on Wear OS 6 and include 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

A notable new feature is side charging, which would allow the device to be charged while resting on its side—a first for the Pixel Watch series. The smartwatch is also expected to include a comprehensive set of sensors, such as SpO2 monitoring, ECG compatibility, heart rate tracking, altimeter, gyroscope, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, magnetometer, and ultrawideband support.

The Pixel Watch 4 is anticipated to launch in five color options, with earlier leaks suggesting combinations such as Black/Obsidian, Gold/Lemon, Moonstone, Silver/Iris, and Silver/Porcelain.
