Air India Crash Investigation Focuses on Cockpit Engine Fuel Control Switches
Investigators are examining the role of cockpit engine fuel control switches in the Air India Flight 171 crash, with pilot actions under review.
It's been nearly one month since Air India Flight 171 crashed into a medical college shortly after departing from Ahmedabad Airport in India.
The incident resulted in the deaths of 241 people on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 19 individuals on the ground. There was one survivor from the aircraft.
India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is expected to release a preliminary report on the crash on Friday. Investigators have indicated that pilot actions, particularly regarding the engine fuel control switches, are a primary focus of the investigation.
Investigation Details
- Boeing has previously faced scrutiny for quality control issues, such as the door plug incident involving a 737 Max over Portland. However, in this case, the manufacturer is not expected to be found at fault.
- According to information from the Air Current, data from the recovered black boxes showed no evidence of design or mechanical problems affecting the 787 or its GE Aerospace GEnx-1B engines during the crash.
- Investigators have also ruled out other potential causes, including fuel contamination and improper retraction of the plane's flaps by the flight crew.
