Fair Work Commission upholds dismissal of chef over pineapple pizza
On 6 November, the Fair Work Commission rejected a Brisbane restaurant owner's attempt to overturn the dismissal of chef Davide Tamburella for refusing to add pineapple to a pizza in Fortitude Valley, Queensland. The commission said the appeal was dismissed.
Tamburella had been terminated on 3 November after repeatedly declining to prepare a ham and pineapple pizza, citing cultural objections. His unfair-dismissal claim was rejected because it was filed 28 days after the termination, with no exceptional circumstances identified.
