Atmospheric river triggers heavy rain and power outages in Metro Vancouver
Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning on November 4 as an atmospheric river brought heavy rain, strong winds and power outages to Metro Vancouver, with further storms expected through the weekend. Meteorologist Steve Boily of Environment Canada warned that three low-pressure systems would deliver significant rain and wind to Metro Vancouver from November 4 through the weekend. The Weather Network forecast that multiple atmospheric river events could dump up to 300 mm of rain on coastal British Columbia, accompanied by strong winds and alpine snow.
Global News reported that a yellow rainfall warning and strong winds forced BC Ferries to cancel several sailings and left thousands without electricity, while Parks Canada issued a wave-hazard advisory. The Times Colonist said high winds and heavy rain from the storm prompted BC Ferries to cancel routes and led local authorities to declare emergencies and evacuate properties on Vancouver Island.
