CDC Delays Alert as New York Infant Dies from Measles
Ars Technica reported that on 3 November a measles-related death of a 7-month-old unvaccinated child in Lewis County, New York, occurred while the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention postponed an urgent health alert concerning measles infection during pregnancy. The child’s death, confirmed by Governor Kathy Hochul on 2 November, was the first measles fatality in the state in more than three decades, prompting the New York State Department of Health to declare a state disaster emergency and to mobilize vaccination resources. Earlier in the outbreak the state had recorded 178 measles cases for the year, and officials have been urging immunizations among unvaccinated communities.
