Rena Lee elected to ICJ as Singapore's first judge
CNA reported that Ambassador Rena Lee was elected to the International Court of Justice, becoming the first Singaporean and the first Southeast Asian woman on the court after securing 151 votes in the UN General Assembly and 13 votes in the Security Council. CNA said Singapore had put forward Lee, a long-time international-law specialist, as its candidate for the Asian seat on the ICJ. The Straits Times noted that the nomination marked Singapore's first bid for a seat on the 15-member bench.
