Christa Pike reports ongoing pain after botched Tennessee execution
Inmate Christa Pike said she continues to experience severe physical and mental pain a month after a botched lethal-injection execution in Tennessee, speaking from the Debra Johnson Rehabilitation Center in Nashville. State officials announced a halt to all executions through the end of the year and an independent review of the incident, following the failed injection that left Pike alive.
Pike’s remarks echo earlier reports that she has been in constant pain since the failed attempt. The pause, ordered by Governor Bill Lee and other Tennessee officials, aims to assess the execution protocol while the independent review investigates what went wrong.
