Tennessee execution doctor vows to continue death penalties after botched lethal injection
In Tennessee, Dr. Mark Fowler, the physician who supervised the botched lethal injection of Christa Pike, said he will continue to carry out death sentences and called for a return to a three-drug protocol.
State officials had paused all executions through the end of the year after Pike’s failed injection in September, launching an independent review of the procedure. Pike herself has said she continues to suffer severe physical and mental pain, and her lawyers have asked the court to commute her sentence.
