Canada announces UAE partnership as US trade talks stall
On October 31, Canada’s government announced a new partnership with the United Arab Emirates and outlined a series of upcoming international visits aimed at expanding trade and attracting investment, as negotiations with the United States remained unresolved. Earlier, on October 26, Prime Minister Mark Carney hosted Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at a dinner in Ottawa that brought together about 120 leaders from business, academia and the community, according to The Globe and Mail. The meeting was followed by a joint announcement that the two countries would disclose details of a new strategic partnership under a fast-tracked free-trade agreement, CBC reported, and Reuters said Canada and the UAE subsequently signed a comprehensive economic partnership agreement intended to cut tariffs and broaden market access.
