Amazon urges engineers to limit AI token counts amid Anthropic IPO scrutiny
Amazon issued new guidance to its software engineers, urging them to prioritize long-term outcomes rather than counting AI tokens, according to Fox News. The guidance came as the company faced heightened scrutiny of Anthropic’s initial public offering filing, which had been criticized for providing limited discussion of potential job displacement. Anthropic’s prospectus, filed earlier this year, highlighted rapid revenue growth to $16 billion in the first half of fiscal year 26 and noted sizable operating losses.
The filing also warned of misuse of its models for weapons, autonomous AI actions, regulatory opposition to data-centre expansion and internal safety concerns. Indian-origin executives, including CFO Krishna Rao and CTO Rahul Patil, have been steering the IPO preparation. Analysts noted that Amazon’s convertible notes and preferred-stock holdings could translate into a valuation of nearly $100 billion and extensive cloud-service contracts.
