Noel Tata to Leave Six Tata Boards as Reappointment Dispute Escalates
Noel Tata said on 28 October in Mumbai that he will step down from the boards of six Tata operating companies on 12 November, but will remain a nominee director on the Tata Sons board, as the dispute over N Chandrasekaran’s reappointment continues. The dispute began in September when Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata questioned the legality of the September 17 board resolution that extended Chandrasekaran’s term, arguing that the decision was not on the meeting agenda and requesting an unedited video of the session.
He later sent a letter to Tata Sons seeking detailed records of alleged TVS-Motor transactions linked to Chandrasekaran’s family. In early October, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi warned that the Tata Group was facing a serious crisis and criticised the government for remaining silent as the board controversy unfolded.
